Executive DirectorPaul Ash attended the University of California at Davis, where he earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. After working in the private sector for several years, including time spent overseas in agricultural development, Paul returned to school to earn his master's degree in business from San Francisco State University. Paul has worked in nonprofit management for 28 years, 23 of which he has spent as the executive director of the San Francisco Food Bank. Paul's commitment to ending hunger in San Francisco has enabled the growth of the Food Bank to skyrocket from distributing just under 3 million pounds of food when he started in 1989 to over 45 million pounds this past year. The San Francisco Food Bank distributes more fresh produce per person in poverty than any food bank in the United States.Paul has served on the Board of Directors of Feeding America and Feeding America’s national affiliates council as well as on boards of other nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area. He lives with his wife and two children.
Deputy Executive DirectorLeslie Bacho joined the Food Bank in 1998. As Deputy Executive Director, Leslie has overseen the Food Bank’s programs and operations during a period of tremendous growth driven by her focus on expanding the pantry network, improving the Food Bank’s ability to bring in and utilize fresh produce, and developing and integrating the volunteer program. Additionally, Leslie manages internally focused support functions of the Food Bank including strategic planning, human resources, and IT. Working with senior staff and Board members, Leslie led the merger team and coordinated the integration of the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks. She has also served in various leadership capacities with the national anti-hunger organization Feeding America.Leslie earned her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and her BA from Duke University. She worked in the private sector before joining the Food Bank. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and two children.
Director of Finance and AdministrationMichael Braude has worked for the San Francisco Food Bank since 2000 and has been the Director of Finance and Administration since 2004 leading the organization’s HR, IS, Volunteer Services, and Finance departments. During Michael’s tenure, the number of Food Bank volunteer hours has doubled, the number of staff has tripled, and the budget has more than quadrupled. Michael and his team have driven the adoption and implementation of modern technology systems that have streamlined our operations, allowing the Food Bank to distribute food more efficiently and equitably across our network. Michael also played a critical role conducting due diligence during the merger with the Marin Food Bank.In his free time, Michael is active in efforts to preserve and protect habitat on the San Mateo County coast, where he is on the board of two area environmental education organizations and a docent naturalist at Año Nuevo State Reserve. Michael received his bachelor's degree in philosophy with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Bob BrennemanDirector of DevelopmentBob Brenneman attended Catholic University and Washington Theological Coalition in Washington, DC, majoring in philosophy and theology. After graduation he moved to Hong Kong and worked for 8 years in community development. On returning to the States he settled in San Francisco and worked for 12 years as a fundraising consultant for progressive Bay Area and national non-profits. In 1999, he joined Project Open Hand, a partner agency of the SF Food Bank, and became their Development Director in 2001. At Open Hand he worked to develop resources to provide daily meals and groceries for Bay Area residents living with serious illnesses and seniors. Continuing his passion for non-profit development and community nutrition, he joined the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks in the summer of 2012 as Development Director.
Director of ProgramsSean Brooks joined the Food Bank in 1996 and has been instrumental in developing and expanding innovative and national award-winning programming. Sean was the catalyst for the development of the country’s most extensive network of weekly food pantries, which allows the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks to distribute significantly more food per person living in poverty than any other Food Bank in the country. Sean has been a champion of providing convenient access to healthy foods, nutrition education, and food stamps to disadvantaged populations. He oversaw the expansion of the Food Bank’s programming in Marin County in response to the 2008 recession that preceded the merger with the Marin Food Bank.Sean has dedicated his professional life to eliminating hunger, working in the sector both internationally and locally since 1989. He serves on the board of Groceries for Seniors, the city’s largest food pantry targeting vulnerable older adults and supports the sustainable irrigation/food security project he started in rural West Africa. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children and performs with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus in his free time.
