Current Opportunities:
PROGRAMS OVERVIEW:
The San Francisco and Marin Food Banks’ mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin. We are the primary source of food for over 400 nonprofit and faith-based organizations of all sizes that provide meals, snacks, and groceries to people in need. We will distribute over 45 million pounds of food this year. Our largest initiative is expanding and enriching a coalition of over 220 pantries offering groceries to more than 28,000 households weekly. Some pantries are open to the community and others target to serve families, older adults, immigrants and residents of subsidized and supportive housing.
Pantry to Plate:
Pantry to Plate food demonstrations are designed to increase product utilization by educating participants on selected products, nutrition, recipes, and cooking techniques. Pantry to Plate provides ideas on utilizing the food provided by the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, as well as educate on nutrition, recipes and cooking techniques.
Examples of Past Demonstrations:
Given the vast diversity of the areas we serve, Pantry to Plate delivers demonstrations based on the audience. Demonstrations may teach people how to cook with foods that are unfamiliar to them; they may focus on special dietary needs or on foods that the pantries receive often; or they may teach adults living in Supportive Housing how to prepare meals with limited cooking equipment.
