Start the New Year off on the right foot - lend a hand to people in need by volunteering at the Food Bank! Below are some brief project descriptions:
Sort Food
Language Support
Work off Parking Tickets (Project 20)
Come see what’s in season - from peaches to beans and rice - and get it out the door! Help us sort, package and distribute these nutritious foods for our community.
Schedule a visit for any of the following times:
- Weekdays: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
- Evenings: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6:00-8:00 pm and Thursdays 4:00-6:00pm
- Children are welcome to volunteer, too! Our minimum age limit is 8 years old during Saturday projects, and 4 years old during Sunday projects. Each elementary-aged child must be accompanied by an adult. (Middle School and High School students are welcome to participate in all project shifts.)

Bilingual volunteers can help improve access to groceries! Join our staff on site visits to support pantry coordinators and provide language support during pantry food distributions.
In just a couple of hours, you can help us ensure that clients, pantry volunteers and coordinators are communicating effectively and have the best access to community resources.
Activities include interpreting during conversations and some basic translation of materials and signage. Help is currently most needed with Cantonese. If you are interested in this opportunity and speak Mandarin, Spanish or Russian, please let us know so we can alert you when we have vacancies in those volunteer projects.
Interpretation opportunities occur Monday-Saturday during the daytime. Please contact Lisa Mizokami (lmizokami@sffb.org, 415 282 1907) for more information.
The Food Bank accepts volunteers who are participating in the Project 20 program through the Department of Parking and Traffic. Find out if you qualify for Project 20.
